Confidentiality and Security

Dermpath recognises the requirement for absolute confidentiality of results. Results are given over the phone only when the caller is identified. Result dispatch on the phone is always followed up by the transmission of a hard copy by fax or courier or postal delivery.

All staff have been informed that results are only to be given to doctors, or their employees. Results must never be dispatched to other people without the intervention of the Pathologist and the Lab Manager.

All samples received will remain secure until the moment of the test and thereafter returned for long term storage. It is the responsibility of the scientific staff involved with the processing that the samples are clearly identified and testing is completed.

Hard copies of results are carried by the courier to our doctors' offices in sealed envelopes, addressed to the appropriate doctor. In cases where that person is absent, the results may be left with a person designated by our client to be the recipient.

Dermpath staff sign a "Confidentiality Agreement" as part of their Staff Induction procedure .

The staff of Dermpath have been instructed in staff meetings not to issue private numbers of any employees, clients or patients.
